typeface design : SerialBox Regular

SerialBox was inspired by my fascination with legibility issues on digital displays, which in turn is really about the fundamental essence of what we recognize as a letter. On the computer screen the smallest size font you can possibly get is 5 pixels (in height--the minimum amount of size/information to represent the letter "E"). So I challenged myself to make a font that would have the minimum amount of information needed to accurately describe a letter, and I based each character on a 5x5 unit grid.
